Memo from First Concern PRC

To: First Concern / Baby Bottle Drive Churches

From: Irene Connor

Date: May 7, 2020

Subject: Baby Bottle Drive

We are transforming the Baby Bottle Drive from traditional bottles into a virtual event! The Baby Bottle drive is an important fundraiser as 100% of the money raised from each virtual donation will directly benefit both First Concern Centers. The spare change that is normally collected in the bottles adds up quickly and the donations help us sustain many Center initiatives. A few examples are as follows:

  • The average bottle full of quarters, which is about $30, can purchase a box of diapers.
  • During this pandemic our Moms have been set up with Earn While You Learn educational lessons online through a service called Bright Course. It takes $80 to provide one month of virtual learning to these clients. This service has been a lifeline for many. We have been able to equip them with emotional support, education, and earned items from our Baby Boutiques.
  • It costs about $100 to set clients up with their first month of services which include a pregnancy test, classes, support, and educational materials.

Please watch this short video to learn more:

If you are in a position to help us financially, please consider filling a “virtual bottle” by making an online donation here:

Donations can also be mailed to: 46 High Street, Clinton, MA 01510. Please be sure to indicate the donation is for the Baby Bottle Drive. Thank you in advance for your encouragement and support!

With you, for LIFE -- First Concern Staff & Board of Directors

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

These past few weeks have been so surreal – especially those who are suffering in any way because of the pandemic. Our team hopes that God has used us in a small way to help you, your family, and your parish journey through the remainder of Lent. Jesus’ words, which I shared when we first found our lives turned upside down, still hold true for us as we enter the sacred days of the Triduum: Be Not Afraid!

Below are some ways to enter more deeply into the Triduum and Easter. Also, we have created a resource to help you celebrate Easter from Home.

We wanted to find a way for all the people of the Archdiocese (and beyond) to share their celebration of Christ’s victory over death on Easter Sunday (and throughout the Octave of Easter). Print out this IMAGE (or upload it to a tablet) and take a picture of you and/or your family with it (see example below). Then post it to social media, using the hashtag #AnEasterPeople and tagging @bostoncatholic and @evangelizeboston.

Have a blessed Triduum!

In Christ,

Michael Lavigne

Assistant Cabinet Secretary for Evangelization and Discipleship

Holy Thursday

Good Friday

Holy Saturday

The Easter Vigil

  • Matthew 28:1-10
  • Those who have no possibility of uniting themselves to the Paschal Vigil should pray the Office of Readings for Easter Sunday.
  • Suggested Activity:
    • Before the Easter Vigil Mass begins, provide each member of the family with an unlit candle
    • Extinguish all lights
    • Light one candle on a table when the priest lights the Paschal Candle
    • When the celebrant passes on a candle from the Paschal Candle, have each member of the family light their own candle from the candle on the table
    • Family members extinguish their candles at the appointed time in the liturgy
    • Turn lights on in the home once the Gloria is sung, as in church
    • Ring bells during the singing of the Gloria!

Lent: 2020 Guidelines

ASH WEDNESDAY (February 26th Mass with Ashes at St. Joseph’s: 8:30am, Mass at St. James: 6:30pm)

GOOD FRIDAY (April 10th)

are days of fast and abstinence.

FRIDAYS OF LENT (February 28th, March 6, 13, 20, 27, April 3)

are also days of abstinence.

ABOUT FASTING: Fasting is to be observed by all 18 years of age and older, who have not yet celebrated their 59th birthday. On a fast day, one full meal is allowed. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and juices, are allowed.

ABOUT ABSTINENCE: Abstinence is observed by all 14 years of age and older. On days of abstinence, no meat is allowed. Note that when health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. When in doubt concerning fast and abstinence, the parish priest should be consulted. Fasting, almsgiving, and prayer are the three traditional disciplines of Lent. The faithful and catechumens should undertake these practices seriously in a spirit of penance and of preparation for baptism or of renewal of baptism at Easter.

Best wishes for the Journey of our Lenten day!
